USC Victorious Over Canon-McMillan, 1-0

Hannah Zangara scores in double overtime—again!

The USC girls soccer team defeated Canon-McMillan on Wednesday night, 1-0 in double overtime.

Seventy-four seconds into the second overtime, Hannah Zangara scored to beat Canon-Mac. It took Zangara 23 more seconds to defeat the Big Macs at USCHS stadium than it did in their first game, when she scored 51 seconds in double overtime. She does have a flair for the dramatic.

The deciding play started when Carley Bogan crossed the ball from the right side in front of the CM net. Katey Woistman and the CM keeper collided, resulting in both players ending up on the turf. Zangara collected the ball and cooly placed the ball in the net. The USC fans were not so "cool" and exploded in joy after the huge win.

With the win, the Panthers clinched at least second place in section and a playoff berth. But the buzz in the crowd was that we want more. Taking section is the goal. Wins against Chartiers Valley on Monday (Oct. 10) and Moon on Wednesday (Oct. 12) would guarantee a section title.

The Big Macs never did get any real good looks at goal. However, the Panthers had a few really good opportunities.

With less than a minute to go in regulation, Kristen Walczak served in a direct kick from the left side, Zangara fielded the ball on the right side of goal and played a
nice ball to the left, looking for Hannah Wilhelm. The ball was just inches away from Wilhelm getting what would have been the game winner.

But the Panthers would not be denied and the constant pressure on the CM keeper resulted in a very sweet victory.
