Upper Saint Clair Beats North Allegheny, 1-0

USC advances to the final in the WPIAL tournament.

The USC girls soccer team defeated North Allegheny 1-0 Tuesday night in a WPIAL Class AAA quarterfinal game at Chartiers Valley high school.

The win sets up a rematch against Peters Township (who defeated Penn-Trafford 4-1 in the other quarterfinal) in the WPIAL finals on Saturday, Nov. 5 at a place and time to be determined. Since both USC and Peters are in the South Hills, Baldwin or Chartiers Valley are possible venues for the game.

Only 5:45 into the game, Carley Bogan scored directly on a corner kick. USC had a couple of other really good chances in the first 10 minutes of play, but failed to convert. NA seemed to regroup and played tough for the rest of the game. Jocelyn Alfera made a great save about halfway through the first half to preserve St. Clair's one goal lead.

The second half was scoreless, with both teams having a some good scoring opportunities. The St. Clair fans and team celebrated as the final seconds were counted down as the Panthers survived with a 1-0 victory.

Here's hoping that the Panthers bring their A-game on Saturday in the game against Peters. Making it to the WPIAL final does not happen very often, so they have to go all out in their most important game of the year and probably of their high school careers.
