As of Saturday afternoon, Hurricane Irene was spiraling over North Carolina.
According to CNN, the hurricane was downgraded to a Category 1, but with top sustained winds of 85 miles per hour, was still causing a lot of damage.
My family and friends in North Carolina are reporting heavy rainfall, many downed trees and power outages.
