Murphy To Host Community Mental Health Forums This Week

Murphy calls it his next step of his congressional examination of federal mental health programs and policies, following last year's tragedy in Newtown, CT.

U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Upper St. Clair) will host two community forums in Mt. Lebanon and Washington, PA this week.

The events, entitled "After Newtown: A Community Conversation on Violence and Severe Mental Illness,” will bring together parents, stakeholders, providers, and all interested residents in the community for a discussion on how mental health policies impact families and particularly children.

The forums will explore issues related to school safety; early detection of mental illness; how the treatment for the severely mentally ill has changed over time; the programs and treatments currently being offered in hospitals, health centers, schools, and through the criminal justice system; and the barriers parents face when seeking treatment for a mentally ill child right here in our community.

The Mt. Lebanon forum will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, April 1, at the Mt. Lebanon Public Safety Center at 555 Washington Rd.
