Youth Suicide Prevention Comes to Southwood Hospital

The Jason Foundation, Inc., Community Resource Center opened in Upper St. Clair.

The Jason Foundation, Inc., a youth suicide prevention and awareness organization, opened its newest JFI Community Resource Center on July 1 at Southwood Psychiatric Hospital in Upper St. Clair.

"Southwood is pleased to offer this to our array of services," said Kevin Daly, JFI representative and Southwood's director of community relations. "We are committed to raising the veil of silence surrounding this issue and providing education and resources to the children, families and communities we serve."

"I am honored and excited to have opened our Community Resource Center at Southwood Hospital," said Clark Flatt, president and CEO of JFI. "JFI will work collaboratively with the many outstanding organizations in Pennsylvania that are already addressing this problem."

The Pennsylvania Youth Risk Behavioral Survey reports:

  • Almost 1 out of 6 young people seriously considered suicide in the past 12 months.
  • More than 1 out of 13 young people attempted suicide in the past 12 months.

Southwood Hospital is a unique behavioral health care facility specializing in children and adolescents. It provides inpatient psychiatric services for males and females ages 4-18 that are in need of crisis stabilization services.

Southwood also offers two specialized residential programs. The intake and assessment department is available 24 hours per day, and the hospital accepts almost all insurances.
