Why Gas Prices Are So Expensive
The cheapest gas in Upper St. Clair is being sold for $3.32.
Your last visit to the gas station was probably shocking. The average price for a gallon of gasoline jumped 16 cents this week.
According to AAA, the average price for gas in Pittsburgh is currently $3.35. Last week, it was $3.19. Last year, it was only $2.75.
The jump in gasoline costs follows a surge in crude oil prices, the main ingredient in gasoline. Oil prices rose nine percent last week to $103 a barrel -- the highest since 2008.

The oil prices have spiked because of the political unrest in the Middle East and North Africa, where much of the world's oil comes from.
Oil analysts expect gas prices to continue to rise.

The least expensive gas that I found in our area was being sold at the Service Mart -- a full service station -- on Washington Road. Gas here was $3.32.
The next best price was at the St. Clair Mini Mart's Sunoco on Washington Road -- where gas was going for $3.34.
Every other gas station in the area was selling gas for $3.35.
