Upper St. Clair Woman Launches Second Book

Upper St. Clair author and illustrator Susan Castriota launched her second book on Sunday with a party at .

The new children's book, Wilson Learns Manners, is about a dog who teaches kids how to say please, thank you and much more.

"I think manners are lacking in today's society," Castriota said. "Coming from a dog, it might be more enjoyable for kids rather than a parent or a stranger or a teacher."

Phyllis Permar, of McMurray, brought her grandchild, Ariana Herzog, to Sunday's book launch party to meet Wilson, Castriota's real-life dog who inspired the character.

"We came for fun and she loves books," Permar said.

Dee Stevens, of Upper St. Clair, stopped by to purchase a number of books for her grandchildren and children in Dallas and New York.

"It appeals to children and they learn how they should treat dogs and humans," Stevens said. "There is a lesson to be taught."

, based on a true story. In the book, the dog Wilson gets adopted and has to be nursed back to health after living with a heavy smoker.

Castriota said there are some differences between the first and second books.

"The new book isn't so much about the true story of Wilson, more about Wilson learning manners," she said. "The illustrations are more detailed; there's more color."
