“It’s a whole change in atmosphere,” St. Clair spokesman Bob Crytzer said. “That’s a big part of the attitude.”

All services that include mammograms, ultrasounds, biopsies, consultation and surgery can be performed at the outpatient center. Patients who come for testing or treatment won’t have to wait to schedule new procedures or consultations.

There is also more privacy with multiple dressing rooms leading to mammograms.

Patsy Thompson, who oversees the surgical wing of the Breast Care Center, said privacy and comfort is an important improvement for their patients.

“For us, it’s a 180-degree turn. It’s state-of-the-art,” Thompson said. “It’s similar, but prettier (to the previous center at St. Clair Hospital). It’s quiet and calming during a stressful time for women.”

Dr. Raye Budway, the surgical director of the Breast Care Center, and Dr. Sherri Chafin, the director of breast imaging, were integral in the design and layout of the facility.

The hospital is holding a special open house to the public from 5 to 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 24.
