Report: Mayview Hospital Developer Misses Appeal Deadline

However, coal mining is still a possibility for the site.

The South Fayette Township solicitor told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review that the owners of the old Mayview State Hospital property bordering Upper St. Clair Township missed the window to appeal the South Fayette Zoning Board's decision to prohibit coal mining.

However, the Aloe Brothers LLC may still restart the application process for strip mining on the site, according to the solicitor.

Dennis Regan, Aloe's project manager, told the zoning board in February that mining was necessary due to financial reasons and because of a water issue on the site. After the mining, he said that an office park would be able to be built.

The proposed mining would take three years to complete.
