New Shop Nearby Serves Cupcakes N'At

The Cupcakes N'At shop in Bridgeville is quickly gaining a following after opening last weekend.

A new specialty cupcake shop in Bridgeville is attracting quite a crowd with its sugary treats.

Cupcakes N’At just opened Saturday and is bringing in a steady stream of walk-in customers who are spreading their tastebud approval by word of mouth.

Two sisters opened the store not sure what to expect, but they have found an audience craving specialty cupcakes. Tamie Godfrey, who lives in Scott, runs the front of the store and greets customers while Billie Jo Giehll, who is a Heidelberg resident, whips up the batter and bakes the yummy concoctions in the back of the shop at 344 Station St.

Godfrey said the sisters were shocked at the response to their shop Saturday when they sold out 720 cupcakes on their first day.

“The grand opening was crazy,” Godrey said. “It was exhausting, but fun.”

The past few days have been steady as walk-ins gawk at the sign and the marvelous smell rolling out of the bakery. In just a few minutes Tuesday afternoon, several people peered into the large windows and walked right in licking their lips.

“Oh, it smells so good in here!” one man said as he walked in and ordered.

He peered in the large display cases that held the “Redd Up,” which is a cheesecake style cupcake with a cream cheese and strawberry topping, and other flavors named in Pittsburguese. The treats also include chocolate covered strawberries, pretzels and Oreos.

They’re hoping for brisk business, but want to make sure their customers get a good product without having to wait too long.

“We just don’t want to sacrifice the quality,” Godfrey said. “They’re homemade recipes and we put a lot of care in them.”

Family and friends are helping while they figure out what kind of staffing they’ll need. The sisters always wanted to open their own business and now seemed like the best time with Giehll’s baking skills and Godfrey’s management background.

They haven’t advertised yet, but they’re benefiting from lunch and dinner crowds walking from neighboring looking for dessert. They are encouraged by the initial response to their baked treats.

“We thought our cupcakes were good, but one lady called – she actually called us—to say that it was the best cupcake she’d ever had. That was surprising,” Godfrey said. “With the state of the economy, a lot of people come in and just want a small treat.”

Specialty cupcakes can be ordered by calling the shop at 412-221-4800, and more information can be found on their Facebook page or at www.cupcakesnat.com.
