Last-Minute Shopping: It's a Guy Thing

South Hills Village Mall Packed With Men on Christmas Eve

It's Christmas Eve and local men are doing what they hate most: shopping.

The male procrastinators were out in full force at the South Hills Village Mall, searching for the perfect gift for their girlfriends, wives and mothers.

"We've seen tons of men today, "a women's clothing store clerk said. "How ironic, right?".

"Every year my siblings and I get my mom a Coach purse," Ryan, who has shopped on Christmas Eve four years in a row, said. "She loves it."

"I'm not much of a shopper. I usually wait until the very last day." Mark Wolkoff, of Upper St. Clair, said. "I found a lot of nice things. This year I got a purse, a wallet and perfume."

One man was last minute shopping for his future brother-in-law.

"He has seven grandchildren so I thought I'd help him out." Dave Kiger, of Bethel Park, said. "I just came from Best Buy. There were a lot of men there. There are a lot of men here, too."

Many men said shopping on Christmas Eve is a tradition.

"Every Christmas Eve, my brother and I take a romp out to the local department stores to look for a obnoxious Christmas sweaters," Joe D'Alessandro, of Bethel Park, said. "We try to imitate cousin Eddie from 'Christmas Vacation.'

Most of the male shoppers had the same advice for each other.

"Know what you want to get before you come to the mall," Ben Simpson, of Mt. Lebanon, said. "Or you'll be here forever."
