Dinner Tyme Saves You Time

Local entrepreneurs Sharon Jones and Heather Stern-Novak started Dinner Tyme to provide home-cooked meals on-the-go for busy lifestyles.

Entrepreneurs Sharon Jones and Heather Stern-Novak opened Dinner Tyme last month. The business women provide fresh, home-cooked meals for people on the go, and they already have a list of 200 clients taking home their family-sized meals—six portions.

The fresh meals are preassembled dinners that can be ordered online and picked up the next day. Frozen meals can be picked up anytime during regular business hours. Everything you need for the dinner is provided.

The two women met in 2005, and both of them love to cook.

Jones is a former flight attendant, and Stern-Novak has 30 years in retail management. They decided it was time to open up their own company. Both of the women are local parents. Stern-Novak has a daughter, Caroline, who attends high school at . Jones has two boys, Ryan and Brent, who attend .

The November menu offers an exciting array of home-cooked foods. Jones takes a frozen Grande Five Cheese Ravioli from the freezer and displays it proudly.

“It comes with a bunch of large ravioli and, in a separate pouch, marinara sauce,” she said.

Quantities of meals can be ordered. There are six servings in the family size, a half size that serves three, and single meals for individual eaters.

The entrepreneurs were eager to display their Cake Quartet, a sampling of Tiramisu, Red Velvet Cake, Chocolate Marquise and Raspberry Chocolate cakes.

“This would be lovely to bring to a party with a nice bottle of wine,” said Jones.

“The desserts,” she points out, “are already baked and ready to eat.”

They also have appetizers such as Spanakopita, a Greek favorite with phyllo dough and spinach, Asiago Chicken Blossoms, Spinach and Artichoke Dip and Mozzarella and Roasted Tomato Empanadas.

Jones and Stern-Novak want to help you with Thanksgiving.

They have a pre-ordered Sara Lee turkey breast, that serves 12 (it has to be ordered by Nov. 16 in time for the holiday), ready to go, and a lot of fun sides like redskin mashed potatoes, artisan dinner rolls, Key West vegetable blend, sweet potato casserole and a butternut squash bisque, or a variety of other items.

“We really thought there was a need for this," said Jones. "Everyone is so crazy-busy all of the time. We thought we could serve a niche. Instead of running to some fast food joint, you can grab a meal here, take it home and cook it. We’re moms making a bunch of family recipes.

“We love to cook," she continued. "We are changing the menu monthly, so we have some foods for the season. In December, we’ll be cooking hams instead of turkeys. We’re finalizing the December menu right now and it will be on our website soon.”

The women buy fresh and local, attending area farmers' markets. They also offer a variety of gluten-free meals, vegetarian meals and more.
