Avoid Boyce Road

Construction project finally is in progress.

Motorists traveling on Boyce Road Saturday learned that, yes, the long-anticipated construction project had arrived.

The state Department of Transportation originally targeted the project's start for mid-June, but it was delayed to accommodate the contractor.

As of Saturday, drivers faced delays well into the night, as per the previously announced construction schedule.

Crews will be upgrading drainage, milling and paving, and performing base repairs about 1.2 miles of Boyce Road from Washington Pike to Washington Road.

Traffic will be restricted to a single, 11-foot wide lane alternating use in the work area weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and weeknights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Weekend work and restrictions will also occur as needed from 6 p.m. on Fridays through 6 a.m. on Mondays. Work will conclude in late August.

The project is included in a $2.9 million contract with of Oakmont for improvements on several roadways in Allegheny County.
