Water Conservation Lifted After Pump Station Failure

UPDATE 8:10 p.m.: Power has been restored to the Becks Run Pumping Station, so the conservation notice issued earlier Monday has been lifted. If you experience cloudy water, run the faucets for a few minutes until the water runs clear. 

The Pennsylvania American Water Company is asking customers in Allegheny and Washington counties to conserve water after a power failure at the Becks Run Pumping Station in north Baldwin Borough.

Customers in high-elevation communities—including Mt. Lebanon, Pittsburgh, Baldwin Township, and West Mifflin, Castle Shannon, Dormont, Baldwin and Green Tree boroughs—could be affected by the failure, which is being worked on by crews from Duquesne Light.

A spokesperson for the water company said that high-elevation communities could see cloudy, low-pressure or even no water until the issue is resolved.

Though they are not at much risk of seeing low-pressure water, customers in Upper St. Clair Township are still strongly encouraged to reduce non-essential water use (both indoors and outdoors) while repairs are taking place.

The Becks Run Pumping Station is one of the water company's primary plant intakes along the Monongahela River.
