Viewfinder: Art in the Park

The Upper St. Clair Library kicked off summer reading with the popular annual event.

The presented its annual Art in the Park event. 

"It's our unofficial kickoff to summer reading," said Colleen Miles, a youth service librarian.

Mothers and grandmothers, and a few fathers and grandfathers sprinkled in, brought their children, from birth to age six, to the Municipal Park on Friday. The librarians set up different art tables with a variety of activities, including painting, stamping and coloring.

"They offer different activities that I wouldn't have thought of doing at home," said Becky Wagner of Peters Township.

Wagner heard good things about the event from her friends and brought her three children.

"We want to start using the libraries more," Wagner said. "Reading brings imagination and creativity to the children."

"We love the Upper St. Clair Library," said Barbara St. Clair of Collier Township.

St. Clair brought her three-year-old granddaughter for the second year in a row.

"We had a really good time," St. Clair said.

Angie Folino, of Upper St. Clair, also brought her three-year-old.

"I think it's a nice way for my son to interact with other children and have some fun," Folino said. "I love to read and hope he can share my love for reading."
