Upper St. Clair Man Takes on Uphill Half Marathon

Upper St. Clair resident Mike Lloyd will take on the third and final leg of his “Visionquest” this weekend.

If you have been following Lloyd, you know that the local attorney has embarked on a three-part challenge this summer to raise money for the . Lloyd is a volunteer at the YMCA and hopes to raise more than $2,000.

In June, Lloyd hiked the 34-miles-in-one-day hike when he .

This weekend, Lloyd and his daughter, Colleen, are going to take part in the half marathon at Pikes Peak in Colorado. The Pikes Peak Marathon is known for its steep and rugged conditions including extreme weather changes from the base of the mountain to the top at 14,000 feet. The race website states, "There’s a reason trees don’t bother growing above 12,000 feet on Pikes Peak. They can’t! Makes one wonder if trees are smarter than runners."

Lloyd left for the Rocky Mountain state Thursday but did have a glitch in his travel plans when they were stuck in the Atlanta airport when he last sent a Facebook message about 10 hours ago.

Lloyd hopes to arrive in Denver in a timely fashion, and then drive to the Pikes Peak area for the run set for Saturday.
