Sites for Every Mom to See

Check out daily deals, helpful hints and intriguing conversation at popular sites designed just for moms.

What mom doesn’t love a good deal, to chat with other moms about child-rearing issues or to find a good home for all of the clothes their children have outgrown? But, what mom has the time to search for all of these things?

Here, to make Upper St. Clair moms’ lives a little bit easier, are some popular “mom sites” that are packed with all of the above and more.

Zulily.com is an online store offering daily deals—sometimes up to 90 percent off—on apparel and a variety of accessories for moms, babies and kids. Only members can take advantage of Zulily’s deals, but membership is free. Additionally, the sales last only 72  hours, but members receive daily emails announcing the latest sales, and can click right on the email to be taken directly to the site.

Cafemom.com is a website that offers moms resources in several areas, including conversations, friendships, advice and entertainment. Moms can connect through groups to talk about their interests, child-rearing issues, goals, passions and thousands of other topics. Moms also can swap recipes and discuss issues such as love, marriage and pregnancy, or play social games to help them relax to keep themselves challenged.

Mom.com is an expansion of cafemom.com and offers daily deals to moms and their families for things they like to buy, eat and do in their local area. The site has local sales representatives who stay on top of what local moms are doing and their interests.

Thredup.com is a site for moms who have what seems like hundreds of boxes filled with outgrown children’s clothes stacked up in the basement. Upon signing up, the site will send 10 medium flat rate boxes to the mom, who then fills them with her child’s gently used clothes, and explains in great detail on the site what the clothes look like, the gender and size (no photos are allowed on the site). Moms across the country can “shop” for clothes and when a box is picked, that mom will receive an email alert along with a shipping label to print and attach to the box. Shipping is paid for by the mom who will be receiving the clothes, and the site will send an alert to the local post office of a package pickup. The mom who packed the clothes can either set the box out for pickup with regular mail, or she can opt to drop off the box at the post office. The site offers free basic memberships, or premier memberships for an annual fee. Each box of clothes is $5, and shipping is a standard $10.95.

Totsy.com offers moms and moms-to-be access to the latest sales, at up to 90 percent off, for them and their kids, ages 0 to 8. The site’s sales are on items such as prenatal care products, baby gear, travel accessories, bedding and bath, children’s clothing, toys, DVDs and educational materials. Membership is free, however, it is only available by invitation or request. An added incentive to join is that after moms make their first purchase, Totsy will plant one tree in honor of her children.

Sittercity.com is a site for moms who are looking for caregivers for their children, pets or house. Sittercity offers access to thousands of sitters in their local area and their profiles. Before sitters can post their profile, however, they must pass a four-part screening process as well as a background check.

Dinnerplanner.com helps busy moms schedule their weekly meals and even provides a shopping list. For only $15 for a three-month subscription, moms can choose their meals from a list of recipes and Dinnerplanner will create the shopping list, offer cooking tips, helpful articles, and grocery coupons.
