Pittsburgh Marathon Will Help One Fund Boston

People at the Pittsburgh Marathon on May 5 will be able to purchase blue "Boston Strong" wristbands for whatever dollar amount they choose to donate to One Fund Boston.

The fund was established to help the victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

The wristbands will also be available for purchase at the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon and the Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon.

"No matter where we start and finish our race, we are one running community," said Patrice Matamoros, race director of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon.

"Many of our participants have been looking for ways to not only give money to support Boston, but also to wear something during their race to show their support for the victims and the city,” said Jack Staph, Rite Aid Cleveland Marathon executive director. "This bracelet will allow them to do both."

"I look forward to seeing a sea of blue wrist bands during our race," said Iris Simpson-Bush, race director of the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon.

Each of the marathons will have a moment of silence before its start to honor the Boston victims.

Meantime, extra security measures are in place for the Pittsburgh Marathon, including extra security officers.

Runners will have to leave backpacks and other bags at a gear check station and place items they need to carry in a clear bag that will be issued, according to the Tribune Review.

There will also be several runner-only zones at the start and finish line areas to separate participants form spectators.

Other security measures that will take place are not being revealed to the public.
