News Nearby: Annual Rock the Quarry Event Starts Tonight

The outdoor festival features live music, good food and is fun for all ages.

The last days of summer are winding down and it is important to get in those last few minute fun outdoor activities for everyone in the family.

Friday night kicks off the 11thannual Rock the Quarry event at the panhandle trail located off of Noblestown Road in Collier Township.

The free, donations are welcome, event starts tonight at 5 p.m. and wraps up late tomorrow night and is perfect for adults and children of all ages. The outdoor festival features live music from a variety of local artists, food, science demonstrations, games and much more.

Food booths open first to kick off the evening. The famous hand-cut fries and First Sergeants BBQ are among the food selection for the event.

And while enjoying your favorite festival food there is music for your ears to appreciate.

Jordon Umbach, an acoustic artist, starts the music tonight at 5:30 p.m. followed by three other acts including two classic rock bands and tonight’s headliner, Bill Ali Band starting at 9 p.m. Music acts start playing at noon tomorrow and conclude with a blues band, Jill West and Blues Attack.

There is more than music tonight too. A science demonstration aimed toward children will take place both tonight and tomorrow afternoon at the activities tent.

In addition to learning science, starting tomorrow at noon in the Family Fun Zone, children and parents can participate in hands on activities like making your own putty and other crafts with the Collier Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts Cub Pack 860.

The Grand Rubber Ducky Race, which gives monetary prizes to the top three places, is scheduled for 7 p.m. tomorrow night. If you purchase a duck for $5 you have the opportunity to win $500 for first prize. The race is fun for both children and adults. You can also take a chance at winning baskets by purchasing raffle tickets.

Tomorrow evening also features a traditional Remembrance Ceremony, slated to start following the duck race.
