New Security System in Place at Local Child Care

The system will be up and running by fall.

In a response to parent requests for greater security, Christ United Methodist Church (CUMC) Child Care Center has added a new security system for its day care and nursery school areas.

The center's newly installed steel doors require a security code to be typed in to a keypad before entering the classroom areas where children are present. Each family enrolled in day care and nursery school will be assigned a code that will unlock the doors to pick up and drop off children. The doors to both wings of the child care center will be locked from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

"The safety of the children at our center is our first priority, and we want to do everything we can to protect them," said Nancy Osman, the center's director. "This is an important security feature to make that happen."

The new system will be operational by July 29 for testing and will be fully functional before the school year begins.

Also new this fall, the center's Education Station enrichment program will be offered as an extension of regular nursery school hours, one day per week, either before or after class. Students will enjoy interactive discovery and enhanced learning through theme-based units. Children do not need to be enrolled in the nursery school program to attend.

In addition, the center's outdoor playground has been resurfaced with a rubber material to increase safety. The playground now includes a large climber to challenge children's gross motor skills development.
