McMurray Road Gas Line Project Begins Monday

Heavy traffic delays are expected.

A major gas line replacement project is scheduled to begin on Monday morning and officials said traffic delays should be expected.

Columbia Gas will be replacing its main service line along McMurray Road.

Work will span from the cloverleaf at McMurray Road and Route 19 and continue along McMurray Road through Bethel Park to the Peters Township boundary line, which is Hays Road.

Construction will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Traffic will be restricted to one lane, with flaggers at the limits of work during the working hours.

"Motorists should use caution, slow down, allow extra time and expect changing patterns and delays when traveling through the area," PennDOT spokesperson Jim Struzzi said in a news release.

In addition, a Columbia Gas spokesperson Tom Cuddy said about 140 customers will experience temporary interruption of natural gas service while their service is connected to the new gas main.

The $3.5 million pipeline improvement project is not expected to be completed until November.
