It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our top picks for this weekend to find something for everyone in the family to enjoy.

Why Go: Participants will view Pittsburgh's parks and natural grass areas without ever leaving the building! The group will learn how southwestern PA's unique geography and natural resources helped to determine its destiny and how nature continues to play a key role in the vitality of the region today.

Where/When: South Park Theater, Thursday - Saturday, 8 p.m.
Why Go: This live performance of Steel Magnolias is set in a beauty salon in Louisiana where all the ladies who are "anybody" come to get their hair done. This play is filled with hilarious repartee and humorous verbal collisions.
Pricing: $12 admission, $10 for subscribers.

Where/When: , Friday, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Why go?: Art in the Park 2011 will be held in the Tot lot next to the library. Join the staff of the Children's Library for a fun morning in the park! The group will be creating with paints, scissors, play dough, chalk, shaving cream, bubbles and a few surprises! Participants should dress for mess! Call 412-835-5540 to register!

Why Go?: This program is for ages 2 and up who love the reptile kingdom! This program will feature a live animal presentation by April Clause of Interactive Environmental Programs. Participants will enjoy an evening of hands-on snake slithering, toad hopping fun during this identification program and herpetological hunt. Call 412-838-0064 to register.

Why Go?: This program is family friendly for ages 5 and up. The Outdoor Classroom welcomes back the Western Pennsylvania Mushroom Club as they resent this three hour mushroom extravaganza. The group will see a slide show, learn tasty ways of preparing mushrooms and how to identify these mushrooms. After the slide show, the group will venture onto the trails in search of any and all mushroom species. Bring a camera for some great photo opportunities and a notebook to record all the species. Go online or call to register!
Pricing: $15/person, $10/person for Mushroom Club Members (10% discount for groups of 3 or more)

Why Go: Each child will learn how to make a basic muffin mix and will create a dozen muffins using a variety of "mix-ins." Registration can be made by calling 412-835-4410.

Why Go?: The Invasive Plant Volunteer Workshop is a family friendly program for those who want to get their hands dirty while learning about the environment! The workshop will introduce volunteers to the many species of invasive plants located in Southwestern PA. The group will begin with a hiking tour of Wingfield Pines and finish the day with volunteer stewardship work. Call 412-838-0064 to register!

Where/When: Salon Richards, Sunday, 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Why Go?: The Sean & Sophia Foundation is a foundation that was set up to bring the dog, Sophia, home to the founders' son Sean, who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome. After this initial goal, the foundation will then expand to a full non-profit organization to help children with special needs obtain dogs or other medical services that are financially out of reach.The stylists of Salon Richards and Pompador Salon of Brentwood will lend their talents to raise money for the foundation. Anyone can come to the salon, make a donation and get a haircut. All proceeds from this event go directly to the Sean & Sophia Foundation!

Why Go?: The PTA is sponsoring this annual family event! The Pirates play against the Philadelphia Phillies. It is Kids Pedro Alvarez Replica Jersey day! The the National Anthem at PNC Park before the game begins.
