Weekend Events: Rummage Sales, Free Concert and More

Here are five things to check out this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.
Well, Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for the best activities to hit.

1.
Where/When: , 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go: All proceeds from the sale will benefit mission. There will be a break for lunch from noon to 12:30 p.m. The sale will be half-price from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

2.
Where/When:
1908 Highgate Rd., Upper St Clair, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go: A variety of items are for sale including paintings, ots, table saw, table lamps, antiques, sofa, sports equipment and small appliances.

3.
Where/When:, 2:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go: All are invited to attend The Three Rivers Community Band Festival, a free musical performance, which will feature many song favorites. Celebrating its ninth year, this festival includes performances by East Winds Symphonic Band and Community Band South from the Pittsburgh region, the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band, and the Festival Band comprised of musicians from over 50 community bands throughout western PA and conducted by James Gourlay, the River City Brass conductor, and hosted by WQED-FM’s Jim Cunningham. A refreshments/reception for musicians and audience follows the performance.

Where/When: Martorelli Stadium, 11 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go: Come to Martorelli Stadium for the 2012 Pitt Spring Football Festival presented by Chevrolet. Gates will open at 11 a.m. and admission is free to the public. Parking is also free and more information on parking locations can be found by clicking here. Get set for the football xlinic run by Pitt players and coaches. The clinic is available to children eighth grade and below and will run from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please bring athletic shoes and clothes; cleats or football equipment will not be permitted. Coach Paul Chryst and the Pitt football team will kick off the annual Blue-Gold Scrimmage at 1 p.m. Immediately after the scrimmage, meet the 2012 Panthers and coaching staff on the field. Unfortunately, due to NCAA rules, the post-game meet and greet is closed to high school aged students and their parents and/or legal guardians.

Where/When: Children's Museum of Pittsburgh, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go: Education Voters Pennsylvania and the Western Pennsylvania Writing Project have joined forces to put together a campaign for public education by those to whom it matters most—the students themselves. On Saturday, April 14, volunteers and educators will help students from all over Allegheny County write and publish letters, tweets, phone calls, paintings talking about why their public school matters. These materials will be used to educate community members, elected officials and education policy makers about the importance of high quality public education. Students of all ages are encouraged to participate.
