Where?/When?: Wingfield Pines Conservation Area at 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: The "orange stuff" in the water at Wingfield Pines is iron oxide discharge resulting from abandoned mine drainage - one of the remnants of the area's industrial past. Join ALT for a nature walk and FREE tour to find out about how by naturally filtering this discharge, the passive treatment system is not only contributing to the environmental health and beauty of the community, but also collecting something that will be useful in the future! Discover ALT's plan to harvest the iron oxide once every ten years in order to use its bright orange color for pigments and dyes. Learn about the creative ways (paints, tie dye, and more!) the "orange stuff" can be transformed from a problem from the past to a unique and eco-friendly resource.
