Get Out: A Guide to USC Community Day

Everything you need to know about Community Day 2011.

It’s that time of year again! The Upper St. Clair Community Day is on Saturday, May 21. Patch has put together a guide to all the activities going on. From the  to the annual , we’ve got all the detail you need. Events are spread out around the community, so we have separated the activities by their location. 

1. 
7:45 - 8:30 a.m.: Community Day kicks off with the . Registration is held at the  entrance on Truxton Drive. The cost for advance registration is $8 or $3 with no t-shirt. The late registration cost is $4.

9 a.m.: The 3.1 mile  will begin and end at Panther Stadium. The course is moderately hilly and is open to all ages.

11:30 a.m.: The  will start at the  and follow a route down Truxton Drive, then travel along McLaughlin Run Road and take Panther Pass back up to the high school. There will be floats, bands and local performers marching in the parade.

12 p.m. - 3p.m.: The USC landmark, the  located at the entrance of the high school, will have their annual herb and baked goods sale. The sale will be open before the  and then open for tours from 12-3 p.m. You don’t want to miss the reenactors from Knapp's Battery E with their cannon and Frontiersman, Wild Willy Frankfort!

9:30 - 10:30 a.m.: The “Hottest Dog” Contest will be held at the stage area.

10:30 a.m.: The winners of the USC Bake-Off will be presented.

11 a.m. - 3 p.m.: , located at the rear of the , will be open during Upper St. Clair Community Day. Residents may receive information on pet care and licensing, see where runaway pets are held, talk to an animal control officer and see what animals are available for adoption.

12 - 4 p.m.: Pony Rides will be located behind the .

12 - 5 p.m.: Following the parade, the  will have  and other entertainment.  The booths have new and old vendors that all USC residents will enjoy. Don’t forget to “adopt” a duck at the Community Foundation booth to race at the annual . There will also be a stage set up for contests and entertainment.

2 p.m.: The Toddler Trot will be held at Founders’ Field, formerly USC Municipal Field.

2:30 p.m.: The Water Balloon Toss will also be held at Founders’ Field. 

3. 
12 - 3 p.m.: The  will be set up in the parking lot of the . Everyone is welcome to stop by and participate in creative art and science activities.

12 - 4 p.m.: The  will operate in the library parking lot. These activities are completely free!

12 - 4 p.m.: The  will be held behind the library. Children can visit the animals at no cost, however, there is a minimal fee for food and milk for the animals. 

4. 
12 - 3 p.m.: Bring the family down to the farm for a petting zoo, house tours, sheep shearing, wagon rides, crafts, old time photos, tips for organic gardening and more! There is a $5 suggested donation to help preserve USC history

5. McLaughlin Run Creek (Behind the Library)
3:30 p.m. , sponsored by the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair, is always a community favorite. Ducks are available for “adoption” at the Community Foundation of USC booth until race time. This year's prizes include an iPad 2 with speakers, 4 tickets to see Wicked, several gift certificates and more!

A shuttle service will be offered to residents every half-hour starting at 10 a.m. to the  and . The shuttle bus locations are , ,   and . The public works parking lot on Truxton Drive will be permit parking only.
