Five New Things Happening at This Year's Community Day

Upper St. Clair's Community Day is Saturday, May 18.

The third Saturday of May is this weekend—and that mean's it's Upper St. Clair's Community Day.

All of the popular activities are scheduled again this year—the Run for Fun at 9 a.m., the parade at 11:30 a.m., the fair booths all afternoon.

However, here are five things you may not know about this year's event.

1. The grand marshals of the parade are John Macuga and Thomas "Tucker" Roche, who are "retiring" after spending 15 years volunteering with the Upper St. Clair Athletic Association. They started organizing a boys' basketball program for their sons, and kept it going long after the boys graduated.

2. This year's theme is Star-Spangled Panther. Volunteers will wear shirts portraying the theme, some fair booths will be decorated to fit the theme and some floats in the parade will likely have that beachy look. The Upper St. Clair High School student council chooses the theme each year.

3. A treasure hunt is planned at booth No. 2 from noon to 5 p.m.

4. The Upper St. Clair Newcomers' Club will be hosting a gift basket raffle and photobooth this year.

5. The Patriot Guard Riders, a diverse fusion of passionate motorcycle riders, will assemble and rally at the USC Veterans Monument to demonstrate their unwavering respect for veterans during Community Day.

In addition, township officials invite the public to check out the new playground next to the municipal building if they haven't already.
