'Day of Giving' to Benefit Variety of South Hills Non-Profits

All donations made to registered non-profits today will receive a pro-rated match from The Pittsburgh Foundation.

If you've ever considered donating, today (Oct. 3) is the day to do it!

More than a dozen South Hills non-profit organizations are participating in today's PittsburghGives Day of Giving.

The Day of Giving is a 24-hour online donation event. All donations made to eligible, registered non-profits will receive a pro-rated match from The Pittsburgh Foundation. The match pool for 2012 – the third year for the Day of Giving – is $750,000 for Allegheny County organizations.

More than a dozen South Hills organizations are registered to participate in the Day of Giving, including The Historical Society of Upper St. Clair, The Outdoor Classroom and South Hills Interfaith Ministries (SHIM).

“The Day of Giving is a great opportunity for community members to stretch the impact of their financial gifts. And it’s a terrific awareness-raiser for a lot of great organizations here in the South Hills," said Jim Guffey, executive director of South Hills Interfaith Ministries.

Last year, SHIM raised more than $13,000 from the Day of Giving event. Funds from the event were used to support SHIM’s programs for low-income suburban and refugee families. 

Community members interested in participating in the 2012 Day of Giving event should visit www.pittsburghgives.org. Donors may select one or more organizations to support. All donations of $25 or more will be eligible for the Foundation’s matching gift. Only donations made between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 3 will be included in the match.
