A celebrity event Friday night at Dormont's Hollywood Theater is exciting for the borough, but it caused a few parking headaches on Friday morning.
Parking meters are bagged on Potomac Avenue between Sugar Cafe and Potomac Bakery. The spaces are reserved for a celebrity event and showing of the film "Christmas in Compton" at Hollywood Theater on Friday night.
Parking will be allowed at the meters until 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. The spaces are reserved after 3 p.m., and violaters will be towed.
Dormont police Sgt. James Burke said the police know the parking situation is inconveninet for local businesses. He said the police are doing everything they can to accomodate the event, the business owners and their customers.
This type of event is great for Hollywood Theater, and for Dormont, he said, but as with any major event, there are some kinks to address.
"We want to keep the Hollywood Theater here in Dormont and this is a great event for them to have," Burke said. "If a new business opened and needed 10 spots for the day, we would award the same courtesy to them."
The "Christmas in Compton" event organizers paid for a and reserved the spaces for tonight's event. Burke said metered spaces can be temporarily reserved, for a fee, for a number of reasons.
Dormont police are visiting businesses Friday morning to let the owners know of the arrangement.
