Broughton Road (Route 2040) in Bethel Park is now open to traffic.
Only minor work is needed to complete the $3.9-million project to reduce congestion and improve safety at the intersection of Broughton and Baptist roads, according to a news release from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation District 11-0.
"We are pleased to report this project is substantially completed," district Executive Dan Cessna said in the release. "This project will create significant mobility improvements for the traveling public at this busy intersection."
Completed work includes reconstructing and widening the intersection to add turning lanes, improved drainage, retaining walls, new traffic signals, curbing, and bituminous resurfacing.
About 28,000 vehicles use the intersection on an average day, the release states.
The prime contractor is Plum Contracting, Inc.
