Area Seniors Turn Construction Wall into Artwork

Residents at a South Hills senior living community found a unique way to have fun with a large construction wall temporarily inside the community. Last Friday, Friendship Village of South Hills unveiled the mural created, with artwork from residents covering the wall that’s more than 40 feet long and 12 feet high.

The senior living community is currently undergoing a $10 million renovation project that includes a new commons area and dining options. The beautification process required crews to put up a large construction wall to muffle construction noise and ensure safety. It’s in a spot that provided a great view overlooking areas of the community, both inside and out. Residents teamed up with arts and communications coordinator Kelly Michel to restore the view by creating a beautiful mural on the temporary wall that sprang up.

20” x 20” inch blocks of wood. The blocks feature a pattern or nature theme. At least 16 resident-made blocks now hang on the wall with other solid-color blocks placed in between, creating a mural across the construction wall.
