Get Inspired: 5 Classes You Can Take at CCAC-South

The fall semester starts on Aug. 19 and Sept. 3.

It's never too late to learn something new.

Fall classes at the Community College of Allegheny-South Campus in West Mifflin Borough start on Aug. 19 and Sept. 3, and here are five courses with space still remaining:

Ceramics 1

This is an introductory course in ceramics. Students learn the proper use of tools and techniques to create three-dimensional works through this very plastic medium. Slab and coil construction, wheel throwing, glazing and firing are studied.
Times: Tuesday evenings, 6 to 10:10; Wednesday afternoons, noon to 4:10; and Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, 2:15 to 4:20

Computer Keyboarding

This course provides a mastery of the keyboard (letters, numbers and symbols) by touch on a personal computer, using Microsoft Word to facilitate typing skills in generating and formatting mailable letters, reports, tables and memos. The minimum speed at the end of the course is 30 words per minute accurately.
Time: Monday evenings, 6:30 to 8:15

Intro to Business

This course is a survey of modern business practices.
Times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, 1 to 1:50; Tuesday and Thursday mornings, 10:50 to 12:05; and Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 9:40

Elementary Spanish 1

This course is designed to encourage the development of communicative proficiency through an integrated approach that incorporates all four language skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing. Grammatical structures, vocabulary and readings are presented as tools for developing good communications skills. In addition, this course aims to promote culture awareness of the Spanish-speaking world.
Times: Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, 9 to 9:50; and Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 9:40

Art Appreciation

This course is intended to be a first-level introductory art course for the beginning art students as well as the student seeking a humanities elective in the visual arts. The student's appreciation of art will be developed through aesthetics, disciplines, critical evaluations, projects, history and attendance at a real or virtual art show.

Time: Monday and Wednesday afternoons, noon to 1:15
