Hello

Some of you may know me from Newcomers, Book Club, walking my dog (Alvin the Wonder Dog), because of my kids, etc., but you probably don't know that I am the face or pen behind Judith Browne Calligraphy.

I spend most of my days happily making handmade books, working on my calligraphy or teaching others to make books or write beautifully, and occasionally updating my blog. In the summer I take my work to various markets and hopefully sell it. Even as I type I know I should be making stuff to sell, but I love to leave it all until the last minute!

This is what usually happens:

First of all I apply to be a vendor at the market by filling in the application and sending off three photographs of my work. I can never get the photographs to be the right size or attach to the application so that whole process is never pretty.

Then I wait to see if I am accepted. I am always sure I won't be and wish I had spent more time on the photographs.

Then if I get in there is a brief period of euphoria, a long period of procrastination and then a stressful period of gluing, sewing, slicing paper, spilling ink, tearing hair out and vowing never to do this again. This is called the panic zone when I wish I hadn't bothered to send the photographs at all.

At the moment I am in the procrastination zone. I have two markets looming and so I am spending time gardening, eating, reading, updating Alvin the Wonder Dog's Facebook page — yes he has one that was created during another period of procrastination.

I am moving toward the panic zone.

Over the next few weeks I will keep you updated on life in that panic zone, but for now click the photos above to see some of the work I do.

Hello Judith, Thank you for sharing your creative progress in Patch. It gives me comfort to know that there are other creative types who follow a similar path. I am also a procrastinator, and have trouble getting down to "getting it done" - I prefer to think of it as waiting on my muse. I'll be looking for your next update.

Judith, I think I know you....well Alvin for sure. Do you walk your pooch at Fairview off lease dog park? Also, I think I was at a meeting at McMurray Art League once when you were there. They need you to offer a book class.
Happy Procrastination,
Denise
