Wholey's Celebrates a Century

September events mark 100 years for the Pittsburgh company.

 

Robert Wholey & Co. Inc. announces a celebration marking 100 years of business.

The Strip District business is hosting a weekend festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 21, 22 and 23. Family-friendly events will take place at the store, 1711 Penn Ave., including live music, magic acts, stilt walkers, balloon art, face painting, contests, free samples and cooking demonstrations.

At 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will issue a proclamation to congratulate the Wholey family and to unveil 17th Street as the newly named Wholey Way.

Wholey’s was established in 1912 as a small store in McKees Rocks, selling mainly butter and eggs. Over the years, Wholey’s has expanded its product line offering fresh seafood, meats, poultry and produce.
