The wind chill advisory is causing another two-hour delay for the Upper St. Clair School District on Wednesday, Jan. 23.
The modified kindergarten schedule will be:
Morning Session - 10:15 to 11:55 a.m.
Afternoon Session - 1:05 to 2:45 p.m.
Neighboring school districts, such as Peters and Chartiers Valley, are also under two-hour delays Wednesday.

I wonder if District administrators have given any thought to what they would do if there were a one-week stretch in which the temperature did not rise above zero degrees, something which is not out of the realm of possibility. Would the schools close for the week, and would that be acceptable to parents?

I remember back in the 1970s there was such a cold spell and the schools did close. I don't think the school children's parents were contacted to determine whether the closings were acceptable to them.

Again, you act as if this ISN'T the standard. Schools across the entire midwest and north central regions have 2-hour delays because of the closings. As other have mentioned, there have been plenty of examples in the past where there were 2-hour delays or closings for multiple days in a row. Did you know the district builds in special contingency days for such occurrences?
Stop trying to act like Upper St. Clair is doing anything out of the norm. Although I am sure you walked to school uphill both ways in -50 degree blizzards when you were a kid.
