Upper St. Clair Man Chosen for Republican National Convention
Louis Oliverio has been selected as an alternate delegate for August's Republican National Convention.
Going to the Republican National Convention is something Louis Oliverio has wanted to do for a long time, and last Tuesday night, he learned he would get the opportunity.
Oliverio is an alternate delegate for the 18th Congressional District Republican Party and heads to Tampa Bay, FL, in August to be part of the discussion to select a Republican presidential nominee.
"I've always been interested in politics. It's very exciting," Oliverio said.
At the convention, delegates will officially nominate the Republican candidates for president and vice president.
Delegates and Republican leaders will also develop the party's platform of issues and ideas, as well as write the rules to govern the Republican Party for the next four years.
This was Oliverio's first time running to become a delegate to the Republican National Convention.
"A lot of people apply for it, it was quite the experience," he said. "I'm happy I did so well."
Oliverio is an Upper St. Clair School Board member and the vice chairman and director of membership for the Upper St. Clair Republican Committee.

I know Louis very well and he is a grassroots Republican and a rock solid fiscal conservative. Anyone who questions his values is just plain nuts and crazy, they don't know him well. Glad to be going to the RNC with Louis. He will represent the 18th Congressional District well!

If he such a rock solid conservative why did he support turning over streams to a foreign organization to run their philosophy with our curriculum? And agree for us to continue paying for the operational expenses of the facility. He's a Republican not a conservative.

As the Upper Saint Clair School Board ponders the extent to which the community will be punished with higher real estate taxes this year and into the future, Board member Oliverio was quoted as saying,"there is a lot of weariness about taxes" among the residents to whom he has talked. Indeed there is. I will hope that this means he will use his influence to attempt to minimize the size of the hike. When I moved to this community in 2002, I was under the mistaken impression that it was one which welcomed the middle class, and which was affordable. I was wrong. My move predated an unprecedented level of spending unleashed by reckless school boards and a Board of Commissioners that disregarded the will of the people when it built a $27.5 million recreation center/palace whose construction costs will be footed by the residents in perpetuity. I will be watching Mr. Oliverio's actions regarding fiscal matters on the Board and will hope that his appropriate recognition of the residents' tax "weariness" will translate into action to help us.
