Representatives for Earth Fare, a North Carolina-based natural foods grocer, have scrapped their plans to come to Upper St. Clair.
They were going to present to the planning commission last Thursday, but pulled their application shortly before the meeting, according to Director of Community Development Scott Brilhart.
The plans called for an Earth Fare store in the former Dick's Sporting Goods location behind South Hills Village mall. Brilhart said the representatives did not explain why they changed their minds.
Whole Foods announced their lease at the planned development on the corner of Route 19 and Fort Couch Road on Nov. 8. Click here for the timetable.
Earth Fare would have been the fifth grocery store to join the existing Giant Eagle Market District and Trader Joe's, and planned Whole Foods and The Fresh Market, along a small stretch of Route 19.

World Market won't come to PA because they can't sell liquor. I asked someone while shopping at one in Dallas, TX...that was their reply. Too bad! I love World Market. How about a Cheesecake Factory...or California Pizza Kitchen!!??

I like how you think...A Cheesecake Factory or a California Pizza Kitchen would be a great addition!! We need some new and different dining options in the area.

Lets see - we have Ruthford Mkt, Trader Joes, Shop Save, giant Eagle. Looks like Earth Fare made a great decision. Mkt over saturated. At the corner of FT. Couch and Rte 19 - why not a sophisticated hotel like a Ritz Carlton or four Seasons and a myriad of fine dining. Ugly storefonts - ugh!
