Five retiring Upper St. Clair School District employees were recognized during Monday night's school board meeting.

Kathleen Kuzma, a Baker Elementary teacher, is retiring after 22.5 years with the district. She was hired as a teacher aide in September 1972, and took some time away to take care of her family before returning.

Leslie Leeds, an Upper St. Clair High School Spanish teacher, is retiring. She was not present at Monday's meeting.

Carolyn Seymour, a Baker Elementary teacher aide, is retiring after being with the district since 1994. She also is a volunteer with the Thai exchange program.

Superintendent Patrick O'Toole jokingly said he was going to miss Ruth Underwood, the high school's head cook, the most, as he is fond of her cooking. Underwood began working with the district in August 1988.

Described as being an Upper St. Clair historian, Dave Walk, an Aramark consultant, is retiring after being hired in 1967 as a custodian.

"He (Walk) knows everything about everything," O'Toole said. "He has a wealth of information and also is just a good friend to work with."

Walk said his family has been with the district for 112 years. Both his grandfather and father were employees. 

"I was climbing on the boilers when I was 6 years old. This has been home. Thank you," Walk said.
