Upper St. Clair and Bethel Park officials joined employees and VIGs (Very Important Guests) in celebrating the opening of the new South Hills Village Target Tuesday night.
"The overall area is going to benefit from this," said Bob Orchowski, president of the Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners. "I'm certain Target's going to be a great addition. Thank you and welcome."
The Upper St. Clair Target is one step below a Super Target. It includes a Starbucks and a grocery area with fresh produce.
The store is open to the public on March 6. Its grand opening is March 10. The store is on the first floor of the former Boscov's, a building that remained vacant for years.
Along with Orchowski, Bethel Park Mayor Clifford Morton, U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy's field director Nate Nevala, Upper St. Clair Police Chief Ron Pardini and Bethel Park Police Chief John Mackey attended Tuesday's ribbon-cutting event.
Target officials presented Mackey $2,000 for the police department's child safety program.

It is nice to have such good news to offset any snow woes of this day! Target is a company which gives back to and enriches the communities it serves. It is welcomed with open arms! My only regret is that this store did not open years ago!

It is too bad Target cannot make its mind on support of homosexual matters. On one hand, they provide funds to anti- movements, and yet do likewise to the pro- community. They have made ads that were clearly appealing to the homosexual community, and have added same-sex wedding registry.
They seem to want the best of both worlds, while straddling the fence. Why can't they anchor down a position? Why the waffling? I realize the green is no respecter of buyers, but if they choose to be overt on one side, why similar overt positions on the other? No conviction.
Microcosm of many of our citizens ....?

If you really put that much thought into every company you purchase from, you might never make it near another store again in your life. Target came under fire 2 years ago for supporting a republican candidate who, in turn, was anti-gay marriage. Of course by the transitive property of the media, that means Target is anti-gay, right? I mean they might as well hang a sign on the door 'no gays welcome!'.
You must really have issues with Chik-fil-a then! Local franchises which support gay workers and open to all families but S. Truett Cathy is not in support of gay marriage!
Newsflash, if you look hard enough, you will have a major issue with just about every single large company out there. Just because I am XXX doesn't mean that every company I shop at supports XXX and if they support YYY I will not shop there. Sure, there are radical consumers who think that way, but its a bit over the top. In addition, generally speaking, 'the consumer' couldn't care less WHO Target or anyone supports. They care about the products and service provided by the company. Not their political views.

Well, Roger, then don't shop there if you don't approve of the way they are handling this. Nothing gets a business attention like lost income.

I do not understand why it is necessary for a company like Target to adopt a public position on homosexuality nor why it would want to do so. The company should welcome all customers that wear shirts and shoes and who visit the store with lawful intent, treating each one with the respect that they deserve. It should not discourage business from any individual based on sexual orientation or any other such criterion.
