The Historical Society of Upper St. Clair unveiled the new scarecrows in the Gilfillan Farm during Community Day with the help of 9-year-old Chloe Perko.

Chloe came up with the winning idea for the scarecrows—Andy Warhol and a soup can—after finding out about the contest on Upper St. Clair Patch.

"I was screaming at the top of my lungs, I was basically speechless," she said, describing her reaction.

"I have been an Andy Warhol fan for many years," Chloe told the crowd who gathered for the unveiling. "And I'm hoping that these scarecrows will not only entertain everyone, but will inspire others to learn more about Andy Warhol."

Chloe's parents, artists Rhonda and Wyatt, said they were thrilled when they found out their daughter's idea had been chosen.

"We were just elated. She was very nervous. I think she was the only child in the contest," Rhonda said.

"I think Chloe is amazing. I wish Andy Warhol could be here to witness this—he would be proud," Wyatt said.

A representative from the Andy Warhol Museum—and Upper St. Clair High School graduate—Leah Morelli attended Saturday's unveiling.

"I think this is a very innovative project," she said. "It's wonderful we have these young and talented artists in the community and the museum celebrates their creativity and ambition."

Chloe won a $25 Chick-fil-A gift card and a T-shirt from the historical society, some free admission tickets and a silk screen T-shirt from the Andy Warhol Museum, and a bunch of Patch swag.

Every Community Day, the historical society surprises residents with a new scarecrow theme. Last year they were dressed up as chickens. The year before that the scarecrows were dressed as a bride and groom.
