Good news for folks in Pittsburgh's South Hills area, as the detours and restrictions that have been in place since March at the Broughton Road-Baptist Road intersection in Bethel Park are now removed.
However, the full project will not be completely finished until late in 2013, according to a PennDOT news release.
Some utility work may continue through this winter with short-term restrictions at that time, followed by additional long-term, single-direction detours and restrictions lasting from April through next fall.
The $3.9-million project to improve safety and reduce congestion at the intersection will create significant mobility improvements for the traveling public. Work includes reconstructing and widening the intersection to add turning lanes, improved drainage, retaining walls, new traffic signals, curbing and bituminous resurfacing. The prime contractor is Plum Contracting, Inc., of Greensburg.
About 28,000 vehicles use the Broughton-Baptist intersection on an average day, according to PennDOT.
