Free Pies: Celebrate Random Acts of Pie-ness With The Pie Place
The local bakery will be giving away a free pie to every 10th paying customer.
Bakers handed out free pies to every 15th customer during their first annual event last year and are upping the ante this year. The shop will give a free award-winning apple pie to every 10th paying customer 18 years or older from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"The first year was a huge success; it was very busy," said Jessica Gombar, owner of The Pie Place.
She hopes for the same amount of popularity on Saturday, despite the snowy and icy weather forecast.
Gombar also encourages children and adults to take part in the two classes scheduled to teach lattice-top pie-making.
"It's a work of art and a lot of people don't realize how easy it is to make," she said.
The 10 a.m. class is for children ages four to 10 and the 11 a.m. class is for bakers of all ages. Cost is $20 per person and includes a lattice-top apple pie to take home and bake. Classes are limited and require preregistration by calling The Pie Place at 412-835-4410.
