A white male in a black hoodie tried to rob the Sunoco on the corner of Washington and North Highland roads at gunpoint on Wednesday afternoon—one of the busiest travel days of the year.
The man behind the register had only been on the job for two days when the suspect pointed a gun at him and demanded money, so he didn't know how to open the register without a customer buying something.
According to an employee at the gas station, the victim struggled with the register, then ran to a back room and locked himself in. The suspect ran off from the gas station without any money.
The Bethel Park police were unable to provide Patch with any details about the attempted robbery until the chief returned to the office. Officers did visit Louis Anthony Jewelers to see if they could see the suspect on the surveillance video.
The attempted robbery might have been connected to at least one other robbery in the area on Wednesday, but Patch has not been able to confirm that information.
The St. Clair Mini Market on Route 19 in Upper St. Clair was robbed at gunpoint earlier this month.

I guess USC is not immune as some would like to believe. A dad kills another in a fit of road rage, another embezzled out of greed, robberies, a school district cutting basic classes and leaving many kids behind, foreclosures, and God knows what else. This community has issues, too. USC is no better, and no more protected, than surrounding communities, just because the median income is higher. We have scum here, too.

If this was in USC, why did the Bethel Park police arrive?

I guess Norman Center is technically BP territory, but I've seen USC police active in that area also. Either way, it's up the street from where I live, too darned close for comfort.

You're right Janie. That gas station is technically in Bethel Park. Part of Norman Centre I is in USC. Norman Centre II is in Bethel Park. I know—confusing!

Crimes happen everywhere! USC, Bethel Park, Lebo, etc. no one is immune. But your comments got a little carried away about USC in my opinion. Kids getting left behind? USC has been ranked number 1 school district for the last five years. Not sure your arguments were at all related to a gas station in the area getting robbed.

With the price of gas theses days, I feel as I'm being robbed! Happy Thanksgiving.
The robber must be from Bethel Park, who robs a connivence store and doesn't at least take a candy bar, at the VERY least take the "give a penny, take a penny" money......amateurs.
