Hearing Tonight on Upper St. Clair Solar Panel Regulations

The public hearing is scheduled during the regular board of commissioners meeting.

The Upper St. Clair Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing at 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 4 in the municipal building to consider a solar panel ordinance amendment.

A copy of the amendment is available for public inspection at the municipal building 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The amendment would restrict where Upper St. Clair residents could put solar panels on their property, and require screening and setbacks.

Solar panels on the front of a roof would be required to be parallel to the roof and no panels would be allowed to go over the height of the roof. Signage and advertising would also be prohibited.

The purpose of the amendment is to make the approval process of solar panels easier in the township.

The creation of the legistlation was funded by the Department of Energy. About two dozen other Allegheny County municipalities and Penn Future participated in creating the "model ordinance."

The planning commission unanimously voted to recommend the amendment.

This ordinance is actually pretty good. I'll be in attendance if anyone has any solar installation questions.

NEXT UP: Drilling in Boyce-Mayview Park! 475 Acres x $3,000/Acre = $1,425,000 just to walk on the property! 17% royalties from that point forward. Conservatively $350,000 - $500,000 a year!

Billy Bob, no one is drilling any Babies. And hopefully no one is drilling Boyce-Mayview park. I don't know if that is sarcasm or being serious? The star we circle around (the Sun) provides more than enough energy for our entire planet. We just need to have the mindset to harvest it.

Very logical point Adam. But I'm not sure that the sun has representatives coming around offering land owners fat checks and lucrative royalties for drilling on their property. Greed trumps logic.
