Goodbye Crossgates Plaza? CVS May Build New Store
Representatives from CVS met with Upper St. Clair planning commissioners to discuss the possibility of demolishing Crossgates Plaza and building a new store on the corner of Route 19 and Fort Couch Road.

Yes, there already is a CVS on the corner of Route 19 and Fort Couch Road. However, CVS officials may build a new store kitty-corner from the existing location.
Representatives met with the Upper St. Clair Planning Commission on April 19 for a pre-application conference. They said they are looking into demolishing the Crossgates Plaza complex and constructing a new store, according to the township's Director of Community Development Scott Brilhart. CVS's current building would then be available for other businesses to lease.
Crossgates Plaza is home to a variety of businesses right now including Einstein Bros Bagels, Boston Market, Healthy Pet Products and Chyten Education Services. It is unknown what would happen to the businesses.
Gregg Schwotzer of Crossgates Inc. told Upper St. Clair Patch that a lot of people have approached the company about the property and that they have "no agreement with CVS." He said CVS has "no authority to talk to Upper St. Clair about the property at this time" and has "no clue why they would have done that."
A newer Walgreens store is located across Fort Couch Road from the current CVS building.

If anything is to be torn down, they should consider the Lace & Promises building behind (attached to?) the current CVS building. What an eye sore!

They should renovate their current building. Don't tear down existing businesses to build a new drugstore. What will happen to their current building on the opposite intersection when they finally vacate it? Is there a buyer lined up already? What will go in there? Or will it sit vacant until someone chooses to put something in there?
Oh, wait! Maybe Rite Aid will buy it and we can have drugstore on 3 of the 4 corners!! [sarcasm font]
The whole thing is ridiculous. And I'm cranky at the thought of losing Einstein Bros.

I agree 100% Keep Einstein Bros. plus other stores there. Fill those stores with other companies!!! Don't tear it down!!!

No more pharmacies, PLEASE! There are way too many in the Mt Lebo, Bethel Pk and USC areas, not to mention all the Giant Eagle stores that have them. we are getting inundated with drug stores and need more diverse shops and eateries to keep the South Hills area thriving.

I agree with what is said by all who commented. I also love Einsteins and Boston Market. I hope the "new" site for CVS is turned down hands down!! NO new Drug stores!! There is also a WallGreens at the bottome of Bethel church Road too!! I agree, renovate the CVS that is there!!! Enough room to do the updates !!!

The current CVS is not an adequate size, given its large volume of business. I would like a larger CVS close to the current location. My concern, though, would be for the tenants of Crossgates Plaza, particularly Healthy Pet Products, the area's finest pet supply store, at which top-notch products are sold by the discriminating owner, Toni Shelaske.

Leave Crossgates Plaza alone! Instead, demolish the currrent crappy CVS store, and the complex behind it as well.
As others have said, the LAST thing we need is yet another bloody drug store!
I would be more concerned about the half empty shell of Norman Centre, sans Blockbuster and Pearle Vision; it must be half-empty or so, although I believe a restaurant may replace Pearle Vision.
Anytime I visit Crossgates, it seems to be a busy, viable location, as opposed to the ugly, underutilized location of CVS. Walgreen's, on the other hand seems to be always busy.
These drugstore chains seem to believe that given the aged demographics of Western PA, they need to have a location on every damn corner! This oversaturation will come back to haunt them, I believe.

It will be interesting to see how the new Target affects business at both the Walgreens and CVS ... prices on many things (beauty products, paper goods, stationery items) will be much cheaper at Target.
