Get Out: Egg Hunt, Book Launch or Hear Phil Bourque

Here are five events to check out this weekend.

Welcome to your Get Out Weekend Planner!

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Well, Upper St. Clair Patch is coming to the rescue. Check out our picks for the best activities to hit.

1. Upper St. Clair Cartoonist’s Book Launch
Where/When: Toonseum, 7 to 9:30 p.m. on Friday
Why Go?: You're invited to the official launch of Wish Your Mouth Had a Backspace Key, by Upper St. Clair cartoonist Francis Cleetus. The book is a wacky compilation of tech toons about people and their off-center relationships with technology. Come get your copy signed at Toonseum on Friday, March 30!

2. 2012 South Hills Christian Athlete Recognition Breakfast
Where?/When?: Christ United Methodist Church, 8:30 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Phil Bourque, former Pittsburgh Penguin and current Penguins radio broadcaster, will speak at this dynamic morning planned to honor local high school junior and senior athletes who have a strong faith commitment. Our emcee for the morning will be Tom McGough. Honor our area youth, hear a great speaker, and enjoy breakfast with us.

3. Manage the Meadows Day
Where?/When?: The Outdoor Classroom, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Hopefully the winter snow has compressed the plant life in the meadows and the “invaders” will be easy to spot. Invaders? Not alien life forms, just saplings and woody shrubs! In order for the meadows to stay meadows, you have to intervene in the succession process. (That’s when the trees gradually return to take over the grassy areas.) Bring your work gloves, loppers, tree pruners and bow saws as you form a tree-whacking conga line and keep our meadows critter-friendly!

4. Annual Easter Egg Hunt
Where/When: McLaughlin Run Road Recreation Center, 10 a.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The Annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Bethel-St. Clair Evening Rotary Club and Upper St. Clair High School Interact Club, with the assistance of the Upper St. Clair Department of Recreation and Leisure Services, has been rescheduled for Saturday at 10 a.m., children can visit the Easter Bunny and enjoy crafts and games at the shelter area located behind the old recreation center on McLaughlin Run Road. A grand prize raffle will be drawn at 10:50 a.m. and the Easter Egg Hunt will begin at the second green area at the Upper St. Clair 3-hole golf course at 11 a.m. Parents, remember your cameras. Kids, don't forget your baskets! Call Milt Hamel at 412.833.4396 with questions.
Pricing: Free

5. Kidgets Club Easter Craft
Where/When: South Hills Village, 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Members of the Simon Kidgets Club are invited to join in for a fun Easter-themed craft project!
Pricing: $5 Kidget Club enrollment
