Weekend Things: Craft Show, Spring Birding & Healthy Kids Day

Here are five events to check out in the area this weekend.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend.

Well, Upper St. Clair Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check out our picks for the best activities to hit.

1. CUMC Vendor/Craft Show
Where/When: Christ United Methodist Church, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Many vendors representing a wide range of products will be on hand to demonstrate and sell their merchandise. There will also be some hand-crafted items from area crafters. This is a fundraising event for PRIME TIME Adult Care.
Pricing: Free admission

2. “Take Back Drug” Collection Day
Where/When: Upper St. Clair Municipal Building, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: The Upper St. Clair Police Department in conjunction with USC Youth Steering Committee is sponsoring a "Take Back Drugs" collection day. Residents are encouraged to bring their potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs for proper disposal. The service is free, anonymous with no questions asked.

3. YMCA Healthy Kids Day
Where?/When?: South Hills Village, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday
Why Go?: Join the YMCA for this special event held in communities across the country with the goal of getting kids and their families excited and engaged in healthy activities and lifestyles. Several physical activities will be featured such as obstacle courses, relay races and interactive games. Plus, see what great new programs are available at the South Hills/Cloverleaf YMCA.
Pricing: Free

4. Talk N’ Walk Series: Spring Birding
Where/When: The Outdoor Classroom, 8 to 10 a.m. on Sunday
Why Go: Get up early to join the classroom staff as they identify the wide variety of birds who visit the Boyce Mayview Park on their migratory flyways! If you’re not an expert, you’re in luck because no birding experience is necessary! You’ll get information on how to become a citizen scientist and help the ornithology community during the International Migratory Bird Count in May. Birders of all ages are welcome. Registration is requested for planning purposes and is required to receive the group discount. Call 412-838-0064 to register.
Pricing: $8 per adult, $3 per child under 12 (10% discount for 3 or more)

5. 18th Annual Sports Auction Myasthenia Gravis Association Benefit
Where?/When?: Club at Nevillewood, 3 to 7 p.m. on Sunday
Why Go?: The Myasthenia Gravis Association of Western PA at Allegheny General Hospital invites all sports fans and collectors to attend the 18th Annual Sports Memorabilia Auction. This fun, family-friendly event will be held at the Club at Nevillewood in Presto and will be emceed by sports talk radio’s John Phillips. Other guests include Pittsburgh Pirates alumni Steve Blass and Don Schwall, Miss Pennsylvania USA Sheena Monnin and Miss Pennsylvania Teen USA Julia Belechak. Advance reservations are requested.
