The oldies are alive and well.

That reference is to the type of music played by the Four Townsmen and the 4T Show Band, which brought its energetic show to Peterswood Park on Wednesday.

As for the guys in the group … well, some of them have been performing since the truly early days of rock ’n’ roll. But that doesn’t seem to be slowing them any.

Part of Peters Township’s summer concert series, Wednesday’s gig brought hundreds of fans to the amphitheater at Peterswood Park, where they enjoyed a couple of sets of favorites from decades past, often singing along to the renditons of instantly recognizable Top 40 hits.

Two of the singers, Lou Gadani and Pete Kouklakis, are original members of the Four Townsmen vocal group that formed in Canonsburg in 1959. The Townsmen scored regional hits with “Sometimes (When I’m All Alone)” and “It Wasn’t So Long Before (Graduation Is Here),” and in 1999 they were inducted to the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in Sharon, PA.

These days, Gadani and Kouklakis are complemented on the front line by longtime radio personality Pete Povich and veteran lead singer Eric Bruce Sr.

The instrumentalists are Peters Township resident Rob Throckmorton on drums, Bill McWreath on keyboards, John Marcishak on bass, Ray Margiotta on guitar and Milt Barney on saxophone. You might recognize him as the band director at Peters Township High School.

The Four Townsmen next perform at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, as part of a classic car show at the Meadows Casino & Racetrack.
