Back By Popular Demand: Family Prom

Local families celebrated Valentine's weekend with the second annual Family Prom.

About 65 people gathered for the second annual Family Prom on Friday at the .

"We had families asking about it since after summer," organizer Sarah Povazan said.

Members and non-members of the Community and Recreation Center were invited to this year's Valentine's Day-themed, kid-friendly party to enjoy dancing with a live D.J., family photos, arts and crafts, finger foods and desserts.

"It's nice to spend time with family and take a break from the day-to-day activities," Povazan said.

"It's a great night for the family, especially for the kids. It's rare you get to go and socialize with friends with the kids there. Usually we're spending the evening putting the kids to bed," said Joe Famoso of Mt. Lebanon.

The Fultons attended the event with two other families.

"It's our second family prom. We're back because the kids had a great time," said Corina Fulton of Upper St. Clair. "This year's bigger, more people.

"It's a nice night out in the winter."

The Lamans were also back for a second time.

"It's completely entertaining. The kids feel like they're getting a grown-up night—get to dress up and feel special," said Jen Laman of Mt. Lebanon.

Don't worry if you missed this year's Family Prom, a third one is in the works.

"We'll definitely do it again," Povazan said.
