DUI Checkpoints for Memorial Day Weekend

Pittsburgh police will conduct DUI and sobriety checkpoints Memorial Day weekend.

Pittsburgh police will conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols this Memorial Day weekend.

The patrols will be in place between the hours of 11 p.m. and 4 a.m. throughout the South Hills and West End sections of the City of Pittsburgh.

In addition, Castle Shannon Police Department, as part of the DUI Task Force, will begin a summer-long intensive DUI enforcement on Memorial Day weekend. Municipal and state police will increase sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols throughout the state.

The Pittsburgh Bureau of Police participates in PennDOT’s Western Alliance/Team DUI program, which consists of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, the Pennsylvania State Police and numerous local departments that conduct sobriety checkpoints and roving DUI patrols across Western Pennsylvania.

Not that I have gone downtown in a long time. But, from my experience, one of the major reasons you see people from the south hills DUI is because it's almost impossible to get public transportation to Upper St. Clair.

I know it isn't legal but in my past I had been refused and kicked out by cabs in the south side when I asked to go to St. Clair at the end of the night. I have spent 2+ hours trying to find a cab home at the end of the the night and have had friends who just give up and stay at the holiday inn express (I have dogs can't do that).

The city and county certainly don't make it easy for young adults to go out and make it home safely without having a dedicated sober driver, which can be very difficult to find at times.

Oh yeah, while I am at it, most Mt. Lebanon checkpoints are on the downhill site of Rt 19 when coming up to the galleria. Cedar Blvd is a much safer choice.

There will also be checkpoints on Banksville and West Liberty at times. Safer choice is Broadway blvd if you know it. DUI checkpoints are annoying for sober people too as they are revenue generators for anyone with a burnt out tail light or tinted windows, can't find their registration or insurance.

I have a problem with stopping innocent people for no reason what so ever.
