Downtown Pens Rally Planned for Wednesday

Today is officially 'A Great Day for Hockey."

The Pittsburgh Penguins, Allegheny County Executive Rich Fitzgerald and Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl will hold a “Ground the Flyers” rally at the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard today at noon.

Bob McLaughlin from the X Morning Show will emcee the event, Iceburgh the mascot is expected to attend, musical entertainment will be provided by the Kardaz Brothers and Turner’s Dairy and Snyder of Berlin will be providing some refreshments to attendees.

The county executive and mayor have declared Wednesday “A Great Day for Hockey,” and they are encouraging fans to show their Penguins pride by donning the team’s colors to mark the first home game in the Stanley Cup Playoff against the Philadelphia Flyers.

They are also asking those attending the rally to bring a canned good, non-perishable food item, or cash donation for the Scouting for Food drive, which benefits the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

The Penguins are asking fans attending Wednesday night’s game to wear white to create a “white out” at Consol Energy Center. For those who do not have tickets, the game will be shown on the “Big Screen” in the parking lot of the Epiphany Catholic Church adjacent to Washington Place and positioned toward Fifth Avenue.

Where will you be watching tonight's game? Tell us in the comments.
